Alastair Storey

Alastair Storey (b. 1953) was born and grew up in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was educated at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen and at Strathclyde University’s Scottish Hotel School.

He joined the catering company Sutcliffe as a trainee in 1975 and over the next 25 years rose to become Group Managing Director responsible for a business which grew to over £900m of sales.

In 2000 he decided to leave corporate life and establish a new business, WSH with an ethos based on fresh, local, seasonal food and a commitment to innovative training. The business has grown to employ around 16,000 in a range of market sectors, from business and industry, education, retail and restaurants and in 2015 had sales of £650m.

Alastair remains Chairman and Chief Executive of WSH but is also very committed to promoting the hospitality and tourism industry and encouraging young people to see the great possibilities the sector offers. Together with industry colleagues he established and chairs The Gold Service Scholarship, he is a Governor of The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, a director of the BHA and a Vice President of Food Service Europe.

Alastair was honoured in 2016.
